NPCK through the support of GIZ, CIP and IFDC upgraded the Viazi Soko Digital Platform into an e-commerce ecosystem which can be accessed through a Web-based portal, downloadable Android App and USSD short code services. The platform provides an efficient way for sourcing and procuring quality farm inputs such as certified seeds, fertilizer, agrochemicals and services such as soil testing, mechanization, spray services, marketing information and extension. It is also used to help link farmers to market outlets. This way, it provides business opportunities to farm input and service providers. In order to increase its uptake and familiarity among its targeted users, the council continues to train Ward Extension Officers (WAOs), Sub-county crop officers (SCAOs), input and service providers, farmers and stakeholder on the use of the Viazi soko platform. Such training was held recently in Nyandarua County where about 50 individuals benefited. Input and service providers who underwent the training are already using the platform to market their products. The trained WAOs, SCAOs and inputs and service providers are expected to support in registering more farmers on the platform.
In attendance were representatives from the County Government, IFDC, Egerton University, Corteva Agriscience, AAK, Cropnuts, Yara E.A, NPCK and farmers representatives.
