NPCK hosted members of the Nyeri County Potato Strategy development Technical team on 20th and 21st February 2020 with the goal of developing the county’s draft potato strategy. The technical team comprises of Nyeri County department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Agricultural Sector Development Support Programme (ASDSP), Kenya Climate Smart Agricultural Project (KCSAP) and NPCK
The team agreed to invite members of the county assembly so as to lobby for its support and also hold a stakeholders validation forum in March 2020 (which was postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic). Some of the areas the strategy aims at addressing is the perpetual shortage of certified seed potato and high quality planting materials and poor marking infrastructure. The committee plans to work closely with the committee of agriculture of the county assembly to enlist support for the subsector. Through implementation of the strategy the potato value chain in the county is expected to be positively transformed.
