The collaboration between NPCK, Viazi Kings, Global Development Incubator (GDI), and Kuza is driving a transformative shift in the potato value chain through the Viazi Soko platform. The partnership focuses on linking Village-Based Advisors (VBAs) and agripreneurs to organized systems of input access, aggregation, and market linkages, ensuring that smallholder farmers benefit from improved efficiency, profitability, and sustainability. Through this collaboration, VBAs and agripreneurs are already facilitating the collective sourcing of quality inputs and coordinating marketing efforts for ware potatoes, helping farmers achieve better prices and reliable market access.
Central to this approach is the power of collective production and marketing. By working together, farmers can pool resources, standardize production, and supply larger volumes that meet the requirements of institutional buyers and processors. This collective approach enhances bargaining power, reduces input and transport costs, and minimizes post-harvest losses through coordinated handling and storage. It also enables farmers to attract financiers and investors who are more confident supporting organized producer groups. Overall, the partnership is fostering a more inclusive and competitive potato ecosystem that empowers farmers, strengthens local agribusinesses, and contributes to food and income security across potato-growing regions.
