Seed Distribution Through Viazi Soko Platform

In line with promoting access to quality inputs, certified seed potatoes were distributed to farmers who purchased seeds through the Viazi Soko digital platform. This initiative enhanced transparency, traceability, and efficiency in seed access, ensuring that farmers received quality-assured seed aligned with their production needs.

The Viazi Soko-enabled seed distribution demonstrated the potential of digital solutions in improving input delivery, reducing middlemen inefficiencies, and strengthening trust between seed producers and farmers. Beneficiary farmers expressed increased confidence in using certified seed, recognizing its contribution to improved yields and disease reduction.

Farmer Group Trainings Across Nandi County

Beyond the trade fair, NPCK conducted targeted farmer group trainings across multiple wards in Nandi County to promote potato production and the adoption of new technologies. These decentralized trainings ensured wider reach and inclusivity, particularly for smallholder farmers who could not attend the main trade fair.

The sessions focused on improved production practices, surface planting technology, recommended spacing (75 cm between rows and 30 cm between tubers), soil fertility management, pest and disease control, and post-harvest handling. Demonstration plots, including baby demos measuring 4 m by 6 m, were used to compare farmer practices with recommended technologies, allowing farmers to visually assess performance differences.

The farmer group approach encouraged peer-to-peer learning, collective problem-solving, and aggregation for input access and marketing, strengthening farmer organization at the community level.
