The Potato Council participated in a joint stakeholders’ consultative workshop on the draft capital markets regulations, 2019 and the draft Warehouse Receipt System Regulations, 2019 that was held on 18th September 2019 at Kenya School of Monetary Studies. Detailed presentation of the two drafts was done . Stakeholders were then invited to give their inputs to enrich the documents.
The warehouse receipt system regulations shall apply to all activities relating to the issuance, negotiation and transfer of warehouse receipts of agricultural commodities stored in licensed warehouses. The regulations also provides for establishment of county registries.
The workshop was attended by the state department for trade, financial institutions, farmer organizations, processors and State department of crop development and agricultural research. During the workshop MoALF, through the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), informed stakeholders that 16 new warehouses will be established across 10 counties that will have cold storage stores for horticultural crops.
