County potato strategy (CPS) is a policy document that aligns with the National Potato Strategy. Its importance include; Aligning with the National potato strategy 2021-2025, Vision 2030 and County Integrated Development plan (CIDP). It factors in the contributions of subsector players and development partners in improving and transforming the potato Industry at County Level. It also informed by the aspirations of the county government and aligns with the Agricultural Sector and Transformation Growth Strategy (ASTGS) hence outlining the county’s potential towards ensuring food security, It also factors in the opportunities and challenges in the county and is informed by players and development partners operating in the County to ensure potato activities are well coordinated and harmonized enabling transformation within the county.
As a way of supporting counties to have their own potato strategy, NPCK in collaboration with Solidaridad on 19th June 2023 had a successful partnership meeting with Meru County department of Agriculture towards developing Potato strategy that will guide potato subsector transformation in Meru. The next steps will follow as outlined in the County CPS development procedure. Present were; CECM Meru, Chief Agricultural officer Meru, County Agriculture Director, KENAFF, Meru potato Union, Solidaridad and NPCK.
