FARMER POTATO FIELD DAY AT COUNTY LEVEL

County potato farm demonstration and farmer field days are designed to help in information sharing and extension on agricultural technologies, innovations and GAPs. During the short rains season of 2022, Potato Council, in partnership with input and service providers, conducted farmer field days in Meru, Nyeri, Nakuru, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Nyandarua counties. Farmers were trained on various technologies, such as the use of certified seeds of different potato varieties, recommended potato-specific fertilizers, effective and efficient use of agrochemicals, and other technologies. The training which took place in different counties from January 25th to 8th February 2023 also included showcasing use of Viazi soko digital platform. Varieties such as Unica, Shangi, Java, Dutch robjin, Ram, Wanjiku, and E22 were also showcased. Partners involved included, Fresh Crop, Kevian Limited, Kirinyaga Seeds, Egerton University, Baraka Fertilizer, Elgon Kenya, Corteva Agriscience, UPL, Syngenta, Twiga Chemicals, JJ Elens, Murphy Chemicals, and Biolevel.
