Participating institutions: MoA&LD crops department, STAK, Egerton University,  CIP, Sereni fries, ADC Molo, Ministry of Agriculture and livestock, Meru county,  KEPHIS and NPCK

NPCK in partnership with Solidaridad organized for a consultative meeting on National Potato Strategy (NPS) implementation at Parkinn by Radison Blue, in December 2022. The main objective of the meeting was to brainstorm and provide a clear direction on how to constitute an effective NPS implementation committee whose mandate shall be to oversee the strategy implementation process in all the potato producing counties and other industry players.

National Potato Strategy which was launched in December 2021 aimed towards guiding further the development of potato industry in the country whereby its overall goal is to transform the potato industry into a commercially oriented enterprise that ensures sustainable food and nutrition security and improved incomes. The strategy is very crucial in guiding how to address challenges and tap into available opportunities at different levels of the value chain. However, its adoption and implementation by key players and actors in almost all the potato producing and consuming counties is still weak, thus there is a need to come up with implementation mechanism that will ensure coordination.

Implementation therefore needs a collaborative effort both at the national and county levels to ensure a sustained growth of potato sub-sector. The committee will help in play an oversight role in the implementation so as to fast track the growth trajectory of the industry.
