Apart from Kisumu major towns have experienced price fluctuations in the potato markets. This is due to reduced purchasing power by consumers as many people have been rendered jobless or have received pay cuts. Majority of fast food joints remain closed with only a few re-opening within Nairobi in the month. Towards the end of the month there was a reduction in heavy rainfall in the potato producing counties. This made it easier to transport the ware potatoes to the major markets leading to a massive influx of potatoes in the markets thus reduced prices.
To establish the prevailing potato prices, NPCK has appointed scouts (who are also potato traders )in the 5 major towns who check the prices per bag of potato and relays the same to us. We then convert the price per bag into price per kg.
