The National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK), through the Kenya Sustainable Potato Initiative (KSPI) funded by AGRA, convened potato value chain stakeholders on 19th August 2026 to validate the Laikipia County Potato Strategy 2026–2030.

The validation meeting, held in collaboration with the Laikipia County Food Systems Resilience Project (FSRP), brought together stakeholders to review the proposed strategy and provide comments and recommendations ahead of its adoption and implementation.

The strategy is expected to guide the planning, coordination and implementation of potato development initiatives in Laikipia County over the next five years. It is also intended to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders working across the county’s potato value chain.

Participants included representatives from FSRP, NPCK, the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), county and sub-county governments, potato farmers and traders, Village-Based Advisors (VBAs), and other actors in the potato value chain.

The validation process provided stakeholders with an opportunity to examine the proposed interventions and ensure that the strategy reflects the needs and priorities of the county’s potato sector.

NPCK has been supporting potato-producing counties to develop and implement county-specific potato strategies as part of efforts to strengthen planning, coordination and harmonisation of potato initiatives at the county level.

Once adopted, the Laikipia County Potato Strategy 2026–2030 is expected to provide a framework for guiding the development of the potato value chain in the county.
