The National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK) participated in a regional workshop convened by the Eastern Africa Farmers Federation (EAFF) on 11–12 August 2026 in Nairobi, bringing together agricultural stakeholders to strengthen the role of farmer organizations in implementing the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Kampala Declaration 2026–2035.
The workshop focused on strengthening farmer organisations’ participation in agricultural policy and implementation, with particular attention to climate policy engagement, climate adaptation and access to climate finance.
The two-day meeting brought together leaders and CEOs of national farmer organisations, policymakers, representatives from EAC member states, development partners, financial institutions, youth representatives and private sector actors, among other stakeholders.
Discussions centred on how farmer organisations can play a stronger role in translating the commitments of the CAADP Kampala Declaration into practical actions that respond to the needs of farmers across the region.
Participants also examined opportunities to strengthen coordination among governments, farmer organisations, development partners and other actors in advancing resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.
A key outcome of the workshop was the development of commitments and actions to support the implementation of the CAADP Kampala Declaration and advance agriculture across East African member states and the continent.
For NPCK, participation in the regional dialogue provided an opportunity to contribute the perspectives of the potato sector to discussions on agricultural transformation, particularly as farmers face increasing climate-related challenges and the need for greater access to appropriate financing and adaptation solutions.
The workshop reaffirmed the importance of strong and representative farmer organisations in shaping agricultural policies and ensuring that regional and continental commitments translate into meaningful outcomes for farmers.
