The National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK) reached hundreds of potato farmers in Nakuru, Laikipia and Nandi counties through a series of Farmers’ Field Days held in August 2026.

The first event, held in Nakuru County on 5 August, was organized in collaboration with the County Government of Nakuru and brought together more than 440 farmers alongside key stakeholders in the potato value chain.

On 6 August, the focus shifted to Ngobit Ward in Laikipia County, where NPCK partnered with the County Government of Laikipia through the Kenya Sustainable Potato Initiative (KSPI) Project, funded by AGRA, for another Farmers’ Field Day.

The field day engagements continued on 12 August in Nandi County, where NPCK, through the KSPI Project, brought together more than 350 potato farmers, stakeholders, development partners and technology providers to share knowledge and explore practical solutions for improved potato production.

Across the three counties, farmers received practical training on certified seed selection and use, resilient potato varieties, crop nutrition and fertilizer application, Good Agricultural Practices, integrated crop management, pest and disease management, water management and climate-smart agriculture.

The events also showcased green energy technologies and drone technology for crop monitoring and efficient input application, highlighting innovations that can help farmers improve productivity, climate resilience, resource efficiency and profitability.

Farmers and other stakeholders had an opportunity to exchange knowledge and engage directly with technologies and practices designed to support improved and sustainable potato production. The field days also created important connections between farmers, technology providers, development partners and other actors in the potato value chain.

NPCK appreciates the County Governments of Nakuru, Laikipia and Nandi, the KSPI Project and AGRA, alongside Bayer East Africa, Egerton University, Equity Bank Kenya, IPM Potato Group Kenya Ltd, Fahari Aviation, Yara Kenya, NAVCDP, FreshCrop Limited, PlantVillage, SunCulture, GrowPact Kenya, PCPB Kenya, FIPS-Africa and the Agricultural Development Corporation for their support in making the field days a success.

Together, these partnerships are expanding farmers’ access to knowledge, technologies, quality inputs and advisory services, while strengthening the connections needed for a more productive, resilient and sustainable potato value chain in Kenya.
