Kenya’s potato industry continues to gain momentum as stakeholders across the value chain invest in solutions that respond to the needs of farmers and the wider industry. From seed systems and farmer information to digital platforms and international engagement, the sector is seeing developments that are creating new opportunities for growth.
At the National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK), working with stakeholders across the value chain remains central to advancing the industry. The Council continues to support initiatives that bring together farmers, government, research institutions, development partners and private-sector players around issues affecting potato production and marketing.
Access to information and quality seed remains an important part of this work. Through our digital initiatives, NPCK continues to make information and services more accessible to potato farmers and other value-chain actors. ViaziSoko, is now back online following scheduled maintenance, providing users with access to market opportunities, quality seed and input sourcing, weather information and advisory support. Farmers can access the platform through the web portal, mobile application or by dialling 483*331# on their mobile phones. These efforts are taking place alongside continued engagement across the sector, with stakeholders working together to share knowledge, strengthen linkages and support solutions that can be applied at farm level.
This year also presents an important opportunity to put Kenya’s potato industry on the global stage. The country will host the 13th World Potato Congress (WPC) from 26 to 30 October 2026 in Naivasha, bringing together members of the global potato community. For Kenya, the Congress provides an opportunity to showcase developments within the local value chain, exchange knowledge and build connections with potato stakeholders from around the world.
The strength of Kenya’s potato industry lies in the collective efforts taking place across the value chain. As these efforts continue, maintaining collaboration, sharing knowledge and creating platforms that connect stakeholders will remain important to the sector’s progress.
