Sustainable growth in the potato sector requires long-term planning and coordinated action. To guide this progress, the National Potato Council of Kenya is spearheading the development of the Potato Industry Master Plan (2026–2035).
This ten-year roadmap is designed to guide investment, policy development, and innovation across the potato value chain. The goal is to address persistent challenges while unlocking new opportunities for farmers and agribusinesses.
Key priority areas include:
- Increasing the adoption of certified seed among farmers.
- Improving post-harvest management to reduce losses.
- Strengthening market structures to ensure farmers benefit from sector growth.
- Expanding opportunities for value addition, processing, and export markets.
By coordinating stakeholders and aligning sector priorities, the Master Plan aims to transform the potato industry into a more organized, competitive, and inclusive sector.
Through this long-term vision, the National Potato Council of Kenya continues to support rural livelihoods while contributing to national economic development.
