With less than three months remaining until the 13th World Potato Congress, excitement is building as delegates from around the world prepare to gather in Naivasha, Kenya, from 26–30 October 2026.
This year’s Congress promises to be one of the most dynamic in WPC history, bringing together scientists, growers, processors, policymakers, technology providers and value-chain partners under the theme “Global Potato Partnership for Enhanced Food Systems, Nutrition Security and Trade.”
Beyond the scientific programme, delegates will experience interactive workshops, networking opportunities, technical tours and the largest Farmers Field Day ever organised as part of a World Potato Congress. Preparations for this major field event are already moving from planning to implementation, with the establishment of the WPC 2026 demonstration plots at FreshCrop Limited in Mau Narok.
The demonstration site is being prepared to showcase key potato varieties and seed technologies under field conditions. The plots will provide a practical platform for farmers, researchers, technology providers and other value-chain stakeholders to observe different production approaches and exchange knowledge on improved potato production practices.
The National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK) participated in the establishment of the demonstration plots, contributing to preparations for the Farmers Field Day. The ongoing planting and development of the site mark an important milestone as Kenya prepares to host delegates and farmers from across the world.
The Farmers Field Day is expected to bring together more than 1,500 farmers alongside international delegates for a full day of live demonstrations and knowledge exchange. Participants will have an opportunity to explore climate-smart farming practices, new potato varieties and seed systems, precision agriculture and digital technologies, as well as irrigation, crop nutrition, crop protection and post-harvest innovations.
The journey towards WPC 2026 is already taking shape in the field.
