Farmers training in Nandi County Trained on Soil Health, Input Sourcing, and field officers training on Safe Use of Chemicals by AAK grow.

In a bid to strengthen agricultural productivity and sustainability, farmers in Nandi County recently benefited from a comprehensive training program focusing on soil health, fertility management, and good agricultural practices (GAPs). The sessions were organized in collaboration with agricultural stakeholders to equip farmers with practical knowledge and skills to improve yields while safeguarding the environment.

Focus on Soil Health and Fertility

Farmers were taken through the importance of understanding their soils as the foundation of crop production. Trainers emphasized soil fertility management practices, including balanced use of organic and inorganic inputs, soil conservation, and the role of crop rotation. Practical demonstrations on soil sampling methods were conducted to help farmers learn how to collect representative soil samples for laboratory analysis. This knowledge will enable them to make informed decisions on soil nutrition and appropriate fertilizer application.

Nutrition of the Soil and Policy Awareness

The training also addressed soil nutrition, underscoring the need for balanced macro and micronutrients to sustain crop growth. During the trainings it was highlighted that the link between soil fertility and regulations on proper soil management that guide fertilizer use, environmental protection, and sustainable land management. Farmers were urged to comply with these guidelines to avoid soil degradation and ensure long-term productivity.

Viazi Soko Digital Platform and GAPs

To enhance access to inputs and markets, farmers were introduced to Viazi Soko, a digital platform that links them to certified seeds, fertilizers, agrochemicals, and extension services. The platform also connects farmers to reliable markets, reducing exploitation by middlemen. we further guided participants on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), including proper land preparation, timely planting, pest and disease management, and post-harvest handling.

Training for Field Officers by AAK Grow

On 24th and 25th of september 2025, field officers underwent specialized sessions of training facilitated by AAK Grow through the KSPI project on the safe use of agricultural chemicals. Topics covered included correct handling, storage, and disposal of pesticides, proper calibration of spraying equipment, and first aid measures in case of exposure. Field officers were also sensitized on general safety procedures to minimize risks to human health and the environment.

Building Capacity for Sustainable Agriculture

The joint training initiative marks a significant step towards building capacity among both farmers and field officers in project Counties. By promoting soil health, sustainable input use, and safe handling of chemicals, the program is expected to boost productivity, enhance food security, and safeguard the environment for future generations.
