KEPSA CONVENES AGRICULTURAL STAKEHOLDERS’ WORKSHOP

The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) convened an agricultural meeting on 4th December 2019 in Nairobi. The meeting was aimed at forming an agricultural umbrella body in the country and also to discuss key issues in agriculture sector and propose solutions and action areas that will revolutionize the sector.

The Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) together with NPCK convened a meeting on 6th December 2019 in Nairobi to brainstorm on the issues affecting the potato industry and come up with possible intervention measures.

NPCK in collaboration with key partners in the Potato subsector under the umbrella of Potato Training Committee successfully developed a Potato Production Handbook in 2019. However, the ongoing drastic climatic changes necessitated the need to review the handbook with a goal of accommodating Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) technologies and practices for Kenyan farmers and agri-entrepnuership

NYS TUMAINI FARMERS FIELD DAY

The National Government has identified food security as one of the key pillars under the big 4 agenda and the Development Policy for 2017-2020. To achieve this, the Government identified potato among the crops selected to facilitate the delivery of the food security pillar.

TRUE POTATO SEED TO BE RECOGNIZED

Availability and affordability of certified seed potato has been one of the challenges that the potato value chain has faced despite numerous interventions by the subsector players. This is set to change when KEPHIS finally authorize registration and sales of True Potato Seed (TPS).

NPCK 2019 TEAMBUILDING

The NPCK held its end year team building event on 20th December 2019. The goal of this day is to have the employees bond in a relaxed atmosphere, break office monotony and strengthen team work within the council.

Earthing up refers to the act of heaping soil around the root zone of the potato plant. It is one of the primary production practices that must be done to increase the potato yield.

With increasing cattle feed prices and limited supplies, there is a need to consider other alternative cattle feed. A good option is potatoes especially because during glut there is a lot of potatoes that go to waste. However a few practical points should be considered when feeding potatoes to cattle.
