Mr Samuel Ngari of NPCK, far right, presents a copy of the Potato Regulations 2019 to Mugunda ward MCA Joseph Nderitu (in blue shirt), ACC (left) and Mr Lee Kinyanjui chairman cooperative (In black cap).
SABEKE Cooperative in Nyeri County held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 14th June 2019. In attendance were the Assistant County Commissioner (ACC), area MCA, farmers, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture Nyeri County, NPCK, KSCAP, ASDSP, service providers in seeds, agrochemicals and machinery. NPCK took the opportunity of the event to explain the key provisions of the Crops (Irish Potato) Regulations 2019 to the participants with an aim of creating awareness and better understanding of the regulations.
A copy of the Regulations was also presented to the ACC who together with the cooperative leadership agreed to start implementing them at the start of July 2019. The Regulations which are a milestone will be a boost in the entire county as farmers will reap more as they will sell potatoes in kilograms, rather than the former exploitative extension bag.
