Potato farm demonstrations are one of the most effective platforms used to enlighten small scale farmers on the new and existing technologies and innovations in potato production in Kenya. The National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK), a Public Private Partnership institution has continued to promote the potato industry by coordinating such forums in partnership with other stakeholders in the sub-sector. During 2022 short rain season, potato demos were established in Nakuru (Mau Narok), Elgeyo Marakwet, Nyandarua, Nyeri, and Meru Counties on 17th to 25th October 2022, to showcase various technologies, including the importance of using certified seed potatoes, showcasing various varieties, suitable potato specific fertilizers, effective and efficient agrochemicals, among other technologies. Varieties planted were Unica, Shangi, Java, Dutch robjin, Ram, Wanjiku and E22. Partners who participated in the demo include; FreshCrop, Kevian Limited, Kirinyaga Seeds, Egerton University, Corteva Agri Science, UPL, Syngenta, Twiga Chemicals, Elgon Kenya, JJ Elens, Murphy Chemicals, Biolevel and Baraka Fertilizer. Farmer field days are ongoing, January to February 2023.
