The potato sub-sector is faced with challenges in potato marketing such as inadequate market information by farmers, unstructured market system, unstandardized potato packaging, inefficient grading and sorting by farmers. In efforts to address these challenges, NPCK held a meeting with potato Producer Organizations (P.Os) from Kiambu County on 14th August 2020 at the Kiambu County, ministry of Agriculture offices, to seek ways of addressing the challenges.
In attendance were representatives of Kiambu National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARGIP), Kiambu MOALFC, NPCK, Viazi Kings ltd and P.Os. The POs represented 1,453 farmers from four cooperatives; Limuru Agribusiness coop, Githoboroni Potato Coop, Kikuyu Farmers Coop and Lari Potato Growers. It was agreed that the P.Os will share their production details such as the expected total harvest, harvesting date and varieties grown for market linkage purposes.
