The Potato Council participated in a two day National Agriculture Summit that took place on 26th – 27th February 2020 in Nairobi whose theme was “Building partnerships for transformation, growth and competitiveness of the agriculture sector in Kenya”. The aim of the summit was to present the Agriculture Sector Transformation and Growth Strategy (ASTGS) by the ministry of Agriculture Livestock, Fisheries and cooperatives, create an agricultural transformation roadmap over the next 3 years based on a priority matrix that defines challenges and practical interventions for all the value chains and discuss the role of Counties in transforming agriculture as a devolved sector.
The National Agriculture Summit was also organized to share lessons and recommendations from previous stakeholder engagements and understand key challenges and opportunities for Private Sector investments in the agriculture sector. The summit was officially opened by Hon. Peter Munya, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives. It was attended by delegates and leaders drawn from the National Government, County Governments, Private Sector, Academia, Research, Development Partners, and NGOs representing various subsectors of Agriculture including Livestock, Fisheries, Trade and Finance.
During the summit the CS launched and unveiled the National Apex body for the agriculture sector called Agriculture Sector Network (ASNET) and the SDG partnership platform of the Unites Nations.
