Since its launch in 2019, implementation of the Crops (Irish Potato) Regulations have been ongoing in the country. The regulations provide for quality assurance and promote best practices across the value chain. Sensitization on the regulation at the county and national levels has been going on among farmers, traders, transporters and marketing agents. The exercise is being carried out by industry players led by MoALF&C, AFA and NPCK in the counties of Meru, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Narok, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet among other counties. AFA has been training and gazetting crop inspectors from the counties who have the role of ensuring compliance among the actors.
Further, the county enforcement teams and agencies have been on high alert with arrests of offenders being made in Meru, Nyandarua and Nairobi counties. The implementation of the regulation is expected to continue until the actors are fully compliant both at the national and county levels.
